To be sure, 2020 has been an interesting year. However, Mother has been doing her best to cheer us all up and bring some good things to 2020. First she gave us the Mothership VIII Divine Rose II palette (full review here). Then she gave us my new must have mascara – Dark Star (full review here). Now, she’s giving us the latest addition to her MTHRSHP collection – Rose Decadence palette.

Pat McGrath Labs Rose Decadence Eyeshadow Palette Review

The new Pat McGrath Labs MTHRSHP Rose Decadence Palette is $65 and is available at the Pat McGrath website and Sephora. Furthermore, one of my favorite things about the PMG MTHRSHP Palettes is that you get the same incredible Pat McGrath Labs quality shadows in a smaller quantity at a smaller price.

First, let’s talk packaging. I LOVE the roses on the front and all of the pink details. However, the biggest thing to note about this Rose Decadence packaging is that it is a full redesign of the traditional MTHRSHP packaging. For example, the OG MTHRSHP packaging opens in two parts like a wardrobe instead of a door. Which actually makes it super difficult to store. But this new design looks like it closes flat and opens like a traditional eyeshadow palette with a full sized mirror.

Next, the PMG Rose Decadence MTHRSHIP palette includes 6 limited edition rose inspired shades in this gorgeous rose decorated packaging. Although the launch is described as “limited edition”, sometimes limited edition products do have restocks. Other times, they do not. For example, Mothership VII Divine Rose was announced as limited edition and has been restocked/relaunched at least 3 times. However, there’s no guarantee of any future restocks. But I’m guessing this Rose Decadence palette is going to be a super hot commodity.

Here are the six shades included in the Rose Decadence palette (swatches are below):

  • Pink Champagne – Warm Rose Gold Shimmer
  • Peach Dust – Coral Satin Matte
  • Fuchsia Flame – Warm Fuchsia Duochrome
  • Hedonistic Rose – Rose Plum Matte
  • Scandalous – Copper Metallic
  • Golden Honey – Antique Gold Metallic

Another thing I love about Pat McGrath Labs eyeshadow palettes is that they actually make great multi use tools. For example, I think Peach Dust makes a stunning blush. And Hedonistic Rose is an absolutely gorgeous eyeliner. However, I wish Mother would stop putting an almost identical gold shadow in every single palette. In fact, I think the orange/copper shade should be replaced with a neutral/transition shade, and the bright gold should be swapped with a more champagne gold. By making those two changes, the palette is instantly more usable.

As you guys know, I’m all about the “one and done” palettes. (You know… the kind where you have everything you need for tons of different looks all in one palette.) However, I’m not averse to monochromatic palettes if they have a great color story. I think this one had so much potential to be an absolute must have, but I’m not a fan of the copper or gold in this particular combo.

Overall Ranking (out of 5) –
Pat McGrath Labs Rose Decadence Eyeshadow Palette – 4 –
This palette is so pretty in person. And I love everything PMG creates. The formulas are soft and silky and wear oh so well. But you only get 6 shadows for $65 and I think the orange copper and the gold should have been swapped out for a more cohesive and usable color story. However, the four pink shades are gorgeous and you can create both soft and dramatic looks.

XOXO,
Tiffany
