Although there are lots of productive things you can be doing every day, one thing that’s super important to remember is self care. No matter what is going on in the world, you can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself first. Kind of like how when you’re on a plane, the flight attendant reminds you that if there is a need for oxygen masks, you must put yours on first before you can help others. Of course one thing that always makes me feel better is an at home spa moment. However, I’m really bad at painting my own nails – especially my right hand. So I had to give the Olive and June Poppy a try!

Olive and June Poppy, Topcoat, and HD nail polish

The Olive and June Poppy is a $16 tool made to help you get salon perfect nails at home. It is available at both Target and Plus you can get the Olive and June nail polishes and topcoat at both stores too! Although Target only carries 6 of the 31 Olive and June shades. I have the topcoat ($8) and the shade HD ($8) which is a really pretty white. But to get all of the incredible seasonal and permanent shades, you have to go to the O&J website. Not only does the Poppy fit the Olive and June polishes (obviously), but it also fits other nail polishes as well.

When using the Poppy with an Olive and June nail polish, all you have to do is take the lid off the polish and pop the Poppy on top of the inner lid. Then undo the nail polish like normal. On the other hand, if you’re using the Poppy with another polish, skip step 1 and just put the Poppy on the handle/lid/cap. I tried the Poppy with as many nail polish brands as I had in my stash. It fit well on the Olive and June, Essie, and CND polishes. However, it was a tight fit on my Deborah Lippmann polish, and fit only the top half of my OPI and China Glaze polishes. Although, it would still be possible to paint your nails like that, I guess.

At first I was a bit skeptical of the Poppy. Could a weird rubber balloon thing really help me paint my nails better? Actually, yes! In fact, I felt like it was so much easier to paint my nails with my non-dominant hand. (Shown above. Please excuse my rough, overly washed hands in this picture…) There’s just something about the extra surface area and grip-abilty of the Poppy. Plus, it was a breeze and made me feel like a total pro when used with my dominant hand.

All in all, I only have one complaint about the Poppy. There’s no way to make sure you have it on in the right spot until you unscrew the polish. But after you remove the brush, you can’t adjust the Poppy’s positioning. So you have to screw the lid back on, adjust the Poppy to your best guess, and try again. I wish there were like little dots or arrows you could line up or something to know you’re doing it right. But that’s a small price to pay for an awesome at home mani!

Overall ranking (out of 5) –
Olive and June Poppy – 4.5 –
I wish it had a way to line up with the brush properly other than trial and error, as well as a more universal fit for lots of different nail polish brands. But it absolutely gives me the best looking home manicure. Even on my non-dominant hand. Very impressive.
