Some brands are completely predictable. Other brands get stale and kind of coast when they’ve found a “good thing”. And then there are brands that keep surprising us with new launches and very “on brand” trend launches. Like Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez. The brand really hit the ground running in 2020 with a full collection including a massive foundation and concealer range. And my full collection review and swatches quickly became one of my top blog posts. (Which you can check out here!) With the launch of the new Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable collection, Rare Beauty is really staying true to their natural beauty and confidence messaging.
Since there is a lot to cover with each product, I’ve created this little table of contents for you. Of course you can read the full post all the way through. But you can also just click the link to the product you want to know more about below and it will jump you directly to that section.

What is in the new Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Collection?
The newest additions to the Rare Beauty family are the Melting Cream Blush, Liquid Eyeshadow, and Glossy Lip Balm. Each of the three new products come in 5 corresponding shades, creating 5 little “shade families”. To elaborate, in each shade family, you will find a matching monochromatic eye, lip, and cheek product, all with the same name.
Although not everyone enjoys a monochromatic look, I think it’s really interesting to launch three different products each with the same colors. In fact, one of my frustrations with the initial Rare Beauty launch was that the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush came in 4 matte shades and 4 dewy shades, but each finish had different shades. So if you fell in love with a dewy shade but wanted a matte version, you were SOL. Plus, I think grouping the shades in this way is super user friendly for beginners. All you have to do is figure out which shade looks great on you and then buy all of the products with that shade name.

Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Liquid Eyeshadow
The new Rare Beauty Liquid Eyeshadow is $20 and comes in 5 shades. It is available at both Rare Beauty and Sephora.
The five Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Liquid Eyeshadow shades are:
Warm neutral beige – Nearly Neutral
Soft tea rose pink – Nearly Rose
Rich berry – Nearly Berry
Soft mauve – Nearly Mauve
Soft coral – Nearly Apricot
Out of the three new Rare Beauty products, I think this is the one I’m the least excited about. Now don’t get me wrong. I love a great liquid eyeshadow as much as the next person. But I’m not sure these 5 shades are the most universally flattering. In my opinion, if you’re going to launch something with 5 shades or less, the shades should be as all encompassing as possible. Of course I mentioned that these are made the create monochromatic looks with the lip and cheek shades, they’re still quite warm toned and pink/orange hued. Which on the lips and cheeks are stunning. But on the lids can make you look sickly.
Not to mention that a lot of red and pink pigments tend to stain the delicate eye area. Since Rare Beauty is vegan and leans more toward the “clean” side (note: it is not a fully clean brand), I’m sure they wouldn’t launch something that wasn’t eye safe. In fact, they mention that the products are “Ophthalmologist tested and suitable for sensitive eyes/ safe for contact lens wearers” (per the Rare Beauty Website). All that being said, I wish they would have included one champagne or neutral shade that could lend itself to the more natural “every day”/”no makeup” makeup looks or for anyone that didn’t want something in the pink/orange/coral family.

Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream Blush
The new Rare Beauty Cream Blush is $22 and is available at both Rare Beauty and Sephora.
The five Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream Blush shades are:
Soft neutral pink – Nearly Neutral
True pink – Nearly Rose
Deep berry – Nearly Berry
True mauve – Nearly Mauve
Muted coral – Nearly Apricot
My prediction is that this will be the hottest product in this launch. To be sure, cream products are super hot right now. And they’ll only get more and more popular as the weather warms back up. In fact, last year was the year of cream bronzers and we saw huge product launches from Fenty Beauty (full review here), Huda Beauty (full review here), and Tarte Cosmetics (full review here). Not only that, but the blog reviews were so popular, I did an entire Beauty Battle on YouTube comparing those three products to the original Chanel cream bronzer and you can check that out here! Now that cream bronzers are back in fashion, will this new Rare Beauty Cream Blush launch bring cream blushes back en vogue? Fenty tried it last year (full review here), but we shall see!
Sephora’s website says this cream blush is a “mistake proof” blush that is “water resistant” and “can’t be messed up”. I don’t know about you, but those all sound like challenges to me! One thing I will say is that the original Rare Beauty Liquid Blush is not super user friendly or forgiving. You get very little play time to blend and build the product and it’s very easy to go too heavy handed way too quickly. So I really hope this new cream formula is easier to use and gives more time to blend and build. Cream blush is such a great product for beginners and people who don’t want to spend a lot of time on their makeup. I have really high hopes for this one.
Out of the five shades, I think I’m going to buy Nearly Rose. When it comes to blush, I prefer more of a full pop of pink than a berry or a coral. So I think Nearly Rose will be just right. Although I think all of the shades look super pretty. When it comes to cream blushes, just remember that it is always easier to layer them on top of cream or liquid products than it is to layer on top of powders. Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm
The new Rare Beauty Glossy Lip Balm is $21 and is available at both Rare Beauty and Sephora.
The five Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm shades are:
Soft neutral pink – Nearly Neutral
Soft berry – Nearly Berry
Flushed pink – Nearly Rose
Soft mauve – Nearly Mauve
Soft coral – Nearly Apricot
Although I was skeptical with this shade range for the liquid eyeshadow, I absolutely adore it for this glossy lip balm. In the original Rare Beauty Liquid Lipsticks, I could never find a shade that was super flattering on my skin. I felt like they skipped a lot of the rosy neutrals and went straight from browns to bolds. But they’re making up for the missing shades in this new range of glossy lip balms. They’re all gorgeous, but I think I’m going to have to go with Nearly Mauve on this one.
My one concern about this new product is is it a gloss or is it a balm? On days that I want a lip balm, I’m usually not wearing much other makeup. So it can look super weird with a full on gloss. And on the flip side, if I’m wanting a gloss, I guess it can have a balm in it too, but I hope it has enough color to make it not just a basic gloss. You know what I mean? I really hope it’s more of a nourishing lip gloss. According to the Sephora website, this gloss has all sorts of claims like non sticky, long lasting, nourishing, plumping, and buildable. We’ll see if it lives up to the hype!
Final Thoughts
Overall, I think this is a truly creative and interesting product launch. As I mentioned before, I love the concept of color families and am a huge fan of making beauty and makeup easier and more approachable and digestible. Plus I’m a huge fan of cream blush and always in need of a great lip balm. I just wish the liquid eye shadow came in a few different/additional shades. Of course you know I love Rare Beauty’s messaging on beauty standards and owning your own beauty and rocking it like the gorgeous human you are. All in all, I think these products are great additions to the Rare Beauty family. I am definitely going to buy the cream blush. And maybe the glossy lip balm. Depends on my mood.
XOXO,
Tiffany
