Shop the Rare Beauty Holiday Collection 2020:
Today is a big day for holiday makeup launches! First, we have the Pat McGrath Labs holiday collection launch (check out that preview here). Then there is the classic MAC Cosmetics holiday collection that is also launching to their loyalty program members today (check out that preview here). Now we have the news of the surprise Rare Beauty Holiday Collection 2020!
At first thought, I was really surprised that such a brand new brand would launch a holiday collection already. However, the full collection preview/review is one of the top 5 posts on this blog for all of 2020. And it just launched last month. (You can check that out here.) So really, it’s not that surprising at all.
The new Rare Beauty Holiday Collection includes three mini gift sets, two eyeshadow palettes, a mirror, and a tote bag. Although the gift sets and eyeshadow palettes are available at Sephora, the mirror, tote bag, and other merch are only available on the Rare Beauty website. Right now, the products available at Sephora are available online only. However, a few of the products said “coming to stores 11/11”. So I’m not sure yet if the gift sets will be available in stores as well, or just the eyeshadow palettes, but as always, I’ll keep you posted.
The Eyeshadow Palettes
First let’s talk about the eyeshadow palettes. The new Rare Beauty eyeshadow palette comes in two options – Confident Energy (top) and Magnetic Spirit (bottom). Each palette is $25 and contains six shades. I love this packaging. It looks very sturdy and expensive. And the size looks compact, but usable. Which is really great. According to the swatch photos, the shades all look super buttery and shimmery with great color payoff. Plus you know that teal is calling my name!
Trust – metallic lime green
Elevate – metallic teal
Strong – metallic copper bronze
Gutsy – metallic true gold
Will-Power –metallic white gold
Boost – satin shimmer salmon
Ablaze – duo-chrome lavender
Ignite – metallic berry
Power – metallic amethyst
Clarity – metallic pale pink champagne
Grounded – metallic coral
Passion – metallic dirty olive
When I reviewed the initial Rare Beauty launch, I had a gut feeling that eyeshadow would be next. (I also think a mascara will be coming at some point too.) In fact, it was one of the few products the full collection launched without in the first place. However, I’m kind of surprised that both palettes are all shimmers. To be sure, Rare Beauty focuses on easy breezy makeup that makes you both look and feel good. But in my opinion, it’s hard to create an every day makeup look with a palette that is full of shimmery bold shades. I would love to see a more neutral palette with a mix of matte and shimmers. You all know how much I love my “one and done” palettes.
The Mini Gift Sets
How stinking cute are these Rare Beauty mini gift sets? Honestly, I’m so excited to see the blushes being included in these gift sets. In fact, the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush was one of the top selling products last month. Plus, the full size is so large it will last you forever. So I love that you can pick up these minis and try some additional shades!
Out of the three sets, the 4 piece set is my favorite. I love that it contains two of the liquid blushes and the lip balm. Although I couldn’t find a liquid lipstick shade that was super flattering on me, so I might give that part away as part of a Christmas gift. If the 4 piece set is too much or you don’t want the liquid lipstick, the two piece set with the lip balm and liquid blush would be perfect. The two products work together for a great “no makeup” makeup look and would be an incredible gift for any teenager or beauty beginner in your life.
This set is $15 and contains two mini Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Creams in Inspire (bright red matte) and Fearless (deep mauve rose). Personally, this is my least favorite product in the Rare Beauty line. However, that really doesn’t mean much, because you may love it! And that’s ok too. After all, that’s what Rare Beauty is all about. But I love that you can try two minis for less than the cost of one full size liquid lipstick.
This set is $28 and contains two mini Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes in Love (terracotta with a matte finish) and Joy (muted peach with a dewy finish), a mini Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream in Transform (deep wine with a matte finish), and a mini With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm in Support (plum brown with a dewy finish). First of all, I love that you get to try both a matte and dewy liquid blush in this set. Not only that, but the Lip Balm is really great too.
This set is $15 and contains one mini Soft Pinch Matte Liquid Blush in Bliss (nude pink with a matte finish) and one mini With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm in Thankful (nude mauve with a dewy finish). Honestly, this might be one of my top picks this year for the best gift for any beauty lover. It’s perfect for both beginners and experts alike. The shades are soft and flattering, so you really can’t go wrong. And the price is just right. Keep an eye on this one. You’ll probably see it in a lot of my holiday posts coming up.
