Even though 2020 has been a crazy year, it’s finally time for one of my favorite things. Holiday makeup launches. Although the first half of 2020 felt like it lasted about 6 years, the past few months have been flying by. So I can’t believe we’re talking holiday already. But bring it on! There’s just something about holiday makeup collections. To be sure, they’re always extra sparkly and come with the hopes and dreams of a shiny new year that’s right around the corner. Of course Mother disappoints. And the Pat McGrath Labs Holiday 2020 Collection – Celestial Divinity is giving me all of the best holiday makeup feels.

Collection Overview

First, let’s talk about the products themselves. Of course if you’re a regular around here, you know I’m a huge PMG fan. In fact, her eyeshadow formula is one of my absolute favorites. Not only that, but her new Dark Star mascara is in my top 2 mascara formulas (you can read my full review here). Although her products are expensive, they’re almost always worth it.

As for this PMG Holiday Collection, I’m obsessing over the Celestial Divinity Luxe Quads and the Skin Fetish Highlighter. First of all, I don’t have a Pat McGrath Labs highlighter. So you know I’m going to have to pick that up. And I just love these eyeshadow quads.

One of my favorite things about the eyeshadow quads is the packaging. In fact, it’s the best way to get the classic luxe PMG packaging from the Mothership palettes without the cost. Of course Mother did quads in the 2019 holiday collection (you can read my full review of last year’s quads here.) Last year, the quads were $65 each. So I would guess this year the cost will be about the same. Although I love these quads, I’m going to hold off on calling out a favorite until I get more information. For example, the lavender and coral shades in the first two palettes look quite similar. Maybe similar shades with different formulas/finishes? Why in the world are there such similar shades in the same collection? I need more details! (Of course I’ll give you all the deets as soon as I get them!)

In addition to the highlighter and the eyeshadow are the four Mattetrance lipsticks. I don’t know if these are new shades or classic shades in limited edition packaging. But this black packaging is gorgeous! The little rhinestoned heart is super cute.

MTHRSHP Mega Palette – $76

Last but not least, we have the announcement of the new MTHRSHP Mega: Celestial Divinity Eye Palette – an 18 shade eyeshadow palette. (Swatches shown above.) To be sure, this palette looks massive. In fact, this is billed as the largest palette Mother has created to date. But this color story is pretty cool. I love all of the jewel tones and the high number of special sparkle shades. I hope some of the shades include the new trichrome formula that was in the Divine Rose II palette. That shadow is freaking gorgeous. (You can read my full review and see photos here.) However, the biggest surprise about the palette comes in the form of its price tag. Although $76 is still a lot of money for an eyeshadow palette, it’s substantially lower than the cost of the PMG Mothership palettes and this one comes with a lot more shades.

I have yet to see this palette in person, but I’m guessing the pan sizes are smaller than the Mothership palettes. If not, this thing is going to be comically large. This palette is available at PatMcGrathLabs.com and Sephora on October 4.

As for the shades/shade names, they are as follows:

TOP ROW FROM LEFT: SATURNALIA, BRONZE NEBULA, MAJOR MAHOGANY, LUNAR CHAMPAGNE, VIOLET VOID, GOLD STANDARD MIDDLE ROW FROM LEFT: VENOMOUS VOID, ODYSSEY, FUCHSIA SHOCK, MEGABYTE, BRONZE, ELECTRON
BOTTOM ROW FROM LEFT: COSMIK, SMOKED AMETHYST, DRAGONFLY, VENUSIAN ORCHID, GALACTIC GOLD, CORRUPTION

Celestial Divinity Luxe Quads – $58 each

Now I know I love all of Pat McGrath’s eyeshadow palettes. But I really love her holiday quads. (You can read my full review of the 2019 holiday quads here.) I like that they have the same luxe packaging as the Mothership palettes but with a more compact color story and like half the cost. As for these three new ones, I’m really loving this color story. Although 2020 has lasted both 3 weeks and 300 years at the same time, these palettes have me ready for spring. Honestly, I would expect holiday palettes to be more sultry and jewel tones, but since you have those in the Mega palette, I’m loving that these took a different path.

3 quads with brand new shades

Without even seeing any swatches I already knew the Fleur Fantasia Celestial Divinity Luxe Quad – Huetopia (Pale Rose Gold Highlight), Lavender Blue (Duochrome Lavender Shimmer with Blue Flash), Lotus Paradise (Pink Peach Matte), Iridescent Orchid (Warm Magenta Metallic with Purple Flash) (swatches shown below) would be my favorite. To be sure, I haven’t seen anything with this color story yet, and I’m in love with how soft the shades are.

I’m also obsessing over the Risque Rose Celestial Divinity Luxe Quad – Rose Rebellion (fuchsia), Lavendaring (lavender flash), Life On Mars (copper rose), Mink Noir (black brown) (swatches shown below), but since I have the Divine Rose II palette (full review here), I already have a bright pink PMG eyeshadow.

Pat McGrath Labs Celestial Divinity Luxe Quad Risque Rose Swatches

The last one – Interstellar Icon Celestial Divinity Luxe Quad -Golden Polaris (luminous rose gold), Divine Dahlia (iridescent bronze taupe), Hypnotique (lilac luster), Blue Blood (Burgundy) (swatches shown below) – reminds me of something but I can’t figure it out. Maybe the blue palette from the 2018 Holiday collection?

The blue quad (Interstellar Icons), and the bright pink quad (Risque Rose) will both be available at Sephora on October 16, 2020. The Fleur Fantasia quad (pastel pink, lavender, and coral) will be available on the Pat McGrath Labs website on October 9.

Celestial Divinity Lipsticks

Out of all of PMG’s lipsticks, the Mattetrance formula is my favorite. (You can read my full review here.) Of course, my all time favorite lip formula is the Lust Gloss. But that’s not in this collection. (Although if you love a great gloss, you should totally check out my review here.) The two shades in the new pink and gold packaging are new – Amour and Divine Romance. However, the two shades in the new black packaging are existing shades – Omi and Elson. I think these two shades must be Mother’s favorites, because they get relaunched with like everything.

The two shades in the gold/pink packaging are new. Amour is a coral rose and Divine Romance is a rose dusk. Both shades will be available at Sephora on October 23rd. Of course I think both shades are super pretty and perfect for holiday. However, I wish there was at least one shade that was a bit more neutral and every day. To be sure, I think it’s hard to justify $38 for a statement/special occasion lipstick.

Celestial Divinity Highlighter

Pat McGrath Labs Celestial Divinity Skin Fetish Highlighter Swatches

AHHHHHHH! I’m so in love. This highlighter is just so beautiful. Not to mention a highlighter is one of the few Pat McGrath Labs products I don’t have. Although I really wish they would launch more than one shade. It’s very rare for one shade to be truly universally flattering on everyone. But I can’t wait to see this little baby in person.

Furthermore, if you want to see the Fleur Fantasia palette and this gorgeous highlighter in action, as well as hear my thoughts on both, check out this YouTube video!

Final Thoughts

Of course I am super excited about this launch. And I’m freaking out over the highlighter. Plus the eyeshadow quads are so gorgeous. But at first glance I’m thinking I might want to pick up the highlighter and the Fleur Fantasia quad.
