Oh my goodness the beauty world is on a roll! Not only did we get new makeup lines in the past couple of months from both Selena Gomez AND Lauren Conrad (you can read my Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez review here and my Lauren Conrad Beauty review here), but now we’re FINALLY getting a full makeup line from the man himself – Mario! The new Makeup by Mario collection is out tomorrow and I’m here to share all the details.

Overview

If you aren’t familiar with Mario, here’s a quick little recap. First of all, he’s an incredibly talented makeup artist. Second, he’s famously known as Kim Kardashian West’s makeup artist – you might remember him from her KKW x Mario collection. However, if you’re an OG makeup addict, you might know him most from his collab with Anastasia Beverly Hills. In fact, I am not sure I’ve ever heard of a more highly requested product than a relaunch of the ABH x Mario palette. So even though there’s been a lot of talk about celebs wanting makeup lines as a “cash grab”, this new Makeup by Mario makeup line has years of experience behind it.

In fact, Mario’s expertise is one of my favorite parts about this launch. As you can see in the photo below, these aren’t basic intro products. To be sure, these products are made for beauty addicts by a beauty expert. Why do I think that? Because the products are not your run of the mill products. Of course there are the usuals like eyeshadow palettes and an eyeliner pen. But I’m talking about the more untraditional products like eyeshadow primers and mixing mediums.

Palettes

Master Metallics Eyeshadow Palette – $48. Twelve nature inspired metallic eyeshadows ranging from natural to bold and perfect for all seasons. To be sure, I love all of these jewel tones. In fact, the teal and Burgundy shades are calling my name! However, I’m kind of bummed that they launched the metallic and matte shadow palettes separately. As you know, I’m a huge fan of “one and done” palettes, and there’s no way that you can create an entire cohesive makeup look with only metallic shadows. Which means you’re going to have to bring in another palette of some kind. And at $48, you should be able to complete at least one look with just these shadows.

Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette – $48. Twelve universal matte shadows inspired by human skin tones. Overall, I love this color story. I love that every skin tone is represented. Plus I love that you can use these shades as eyeshadow, brow powder, and eyeliner. Which makes this palette super useful.

Master Metals Eyeshadow Palette – $48. An eyeshadow “palette of exquisite shadows that deliver intense, high-metal shine and liquid-foil effects inspired by Earth’s natural metals.” To be sure this is unlike any palette I have ever seen. In fact, it is a super niche product. For example, not many people have a lot of use for metallic shadows in their every day life. Not to mention one that you also need to mix with a mixing medium. (Although you can also use the shadows on their own.) However, the concept is super cool. I love that the tray pops out for easy use and cleaning.

Eyeliners

Master Mattes Brightening Eye Pencil – $20. A creamy eye pencil that will help brighten your look. Use in your inner corner, waterline, or tear duct for the illusion of a bigger, brighter eye. Although I personally prefer black liner in my water line, this peach hue is a much better alternative to the trendy white eyeliner look of my youth.

Master Mattes Liquid Eyeliner – $22. This eyeliner pen has a flexible tip and is waterproof and long lasting. Of course I’m a huge fan of eyeliner pens, so this one is on my list. To be sure, I’m obsessed with the look of the tip of this liner – look how sharp that point is! Plus, with the claims of waterproof and long lasting, you know I’m going to put that to the test.

Master Pigment Pro Eyeliner Pencil – $22. This eyeliner pencil comes in two shades – Super Black and The Perfect Brown. Not only that, but each pencil comes with a brush on the opposite end to help blend and soften your look. Plus, they are long lasting and glide across the skin without tugging, pulling, or skipping.

Highlighters

Master Crystal Reflector Highlighter – $24. This highlighter has “an exclusive formula that creates a spotlight effect on the eyes or face, and illuminates with aquatic, radiant light.” It comes in three shades – Quartz – shimmering bright white, Citrine – sparkling golden yellow, and bronzite – shimmering cocoa brown. Not only is it a highlighter, but it can be used as an eyeshadow sparkle topper as well. To be sure, this crystal reflector highlighter is basically just a sheer layer of glitter. In fact, it reminds me a lot of the Stila and Fenty highlighters. Of course this is definitely a bold, glittery highlighter – not a soft, natural one.

Master Secret Glow Highlighter – $22. This is a “translucent balm that gives a dewy glass-like glow for the eyes and face in a nourishing, non-sticky formula.” This balm will give eyes, cheeks, and lips a subtle glow.

Brushes

There are five makeup brushes in the first round of this collection. Of course all five are eye makeup brushes. Each brush has black hardware and a white handle. One of the five is a dual ended brush.

E1 Makeup Brush – $22. A dual ended makeup brush with a flat end and a fluffy end. The flat end can be used to pack eyeshadow or cream products onto the lid and the fluffy end can be used to buff and blend.

E2 Makeup Brush – $22. A fluffy multi-use brush that can be used for blending or applying powers to the face like highlighter and setting powder. In fact, I love this type of brush for both highlighter and setting powder under my eyes. (However, make sure you don’t use the same brush for both things – you don’t want sparkly under eyes.)

E3 Makeup Brush – $22. A fluffy brush for all over shadow. For example – “it is Mario’s favorite for a quick sweep of allover lid color.”

E4 Makeup Brush – $22. A dense flat brush that is perfect for both powder and cream products. With this in mind, it’s a great brush for packing shadow onto the lid.

E5 Makeup Brush – $22. A small tapered brush perfect for detail and blending the lower lash line. To be sure, this is a more dense brush perfect for smoking out wet or dry eyeshadow.

Makeup By Mario Master Prep and Set Preview

The Master Prep and Set – $28. An “all in one trio” to both prep and set your eye looks. It comes in three shades – light, medium, and deep – and each set comes with two different shades of eye primer and a setting powder. They can be used individually or mixed together to create a custom shade. The featured brush is the EF1 brush. First I love that this comes in three shade combos and that each combo consists of two shades that can be used separately or mixed. Not only can you mix the shades to create your custom color, but you can change your mix based on the season or your needs as well. However, I almost wish this was a concealer palette instead of an eye primer. I love the idea of a shade mixing concealer and setting powder that were perfectly made for each other.

Master Metal Manipulator – $14. A “pro mixing liquid that transforms metallic pigments into long-lasting, molten metal eyeshadows and liners”. To be sure, this is one of the most “pro” products in this line. Although I have a lot of friends who love makeup, the only people I’ve ever known to own a mixing medium are myself and the makeup artists. (And I got mine from one of said makeup artists.) However, I think mixing liquids are a lot easier to use than people think. Plus, they help you do super fun things like turn any eyeshadow into a liner or liquid shadow. Which makes custom look creation a lot more fun. Especially for the holidays.

Gentle Makeup Remover Wipes – $15. Biodegradable makeup wipes that are oil free, fragrance free, and infused with cucumber water. Each package includes 25 wipes. Of course you know I love my makeup wipes. So this one is definitely on my list. Although I don’t really have much to say about them – they’re makeup wipes. But the packaging is cute.
