Shop Huda Beauty Diamond Hydrating Lip Balm:
Although things seem dark and dreary lately, Huda Beauty just launched a holographic ray of sunshine. The new Huda Beauty Diamond Hydrating Lip Balm! This balm is a slightly tinted balm with a glossy finish. Of course it also has this gorgeous holographic packaging. Plus, the outside of the balm is sparkly! Gasp! Huda is always coming through with her innovative visions (like the cream bronzer I reviewed last spring), so this new balm is super exciting.

Huda Beauty Diamond Hydrating Lip Balm is $25 and is available in 6 different shades – Seductress (sheer pink), Negligee (sheer nude), Dirty Thoughts (sheer lilac), Censored (deep purple), Femme Fatale (reddish purple), and Pink Panty (warm pink). However, only Seductress, Negligee, and Dirty Thoughts are available on the Sephora website. The 3 additional shades are HudaBeauty.com exclusives.

Although I think all three shades are gorgeous, I opted for the lilac shade – Dirty Thoughts. Not only are lilac shades flattering for cooler toned skin, but anything with a blue undertone will help make your teeth look whiter as well. I also like that the three online exclusive shades look to be a little darker too. (Swatches from the Huda Beauty Instagram page are below.) In fact, the darkest two – Femme Fatale and Censored look like they even have a little bit of a tint to them. Honestly, the first three all look pretty similar. So I’m guessing the differences are in the undertones in person.

However, when I both swatched and applied the shade Dirty Thoughts, there was very little tint, pigment, or undertone at all. In fact, it just left a swipe of iridescent glitter behind. Although the glitter is pretty, it wasn’t anything like I anticipated. I expected more of a true lip balm. Maybe with a hint of shimmer. Not a full on glitter stick. Plus, the formula itself is super super soft. After just a couple of applications, the top of the lipstick was completely warn down. It’s so soft it even left some soft crumbles of balm on my wrist and lips. I love a soft lip balm, but no one wants to waste product!

I love the concept and the stunning packaging. But I was really intrigued by the outer coating of the lip balm. The glitter coating definitely drew me to this product. It reminds me of the outside of the Barbie x Pur lipsticks. (Full review here). Although the outside of the lipstick was covered in glitter, the lipstick was somehow still matte! Like magic! But that’s not the case with the Huda Beauty Diamond Hydrating Lip Balm. In fact, this lip balm is a total glitter bomb! It’s really hard to see in the photos, but you can see the glitter in the swatch. You’re basically just swiping glitter on your lips.

Usually I would think of a lip balm as more of a “no makeup” makeup essential. However, this Diamond Lip Balm is so glittery I think you’d look kind of strange wearing it with no other makeup. In fact, I think this balm is perfect for the girl that wants to make a statement but really hates lip gloss. It gives you a super sparkly “wow factor” kind of look you’d expect from the Pat McGrath Labs Lust Gloss (you can read that full review here.) Like I mentioned, I think this balm is perfect for the low maintenance gal that wants a super glittery (but easy!) look for a night out. This is not your every day lip balm. You’ll for sure get glitter everywhere.

Overall Ranking (out of 5)
Huda Beauty Diamond Hydrating Lip Balm – 3 – I’m kind of confused by it. It’s super pretty. However, it’s more of just a moisturizing glitter topper than an every day balm. But there’s not quite enough color/tint to make it a great standalone product. Although the glitter is fun. And the packaging is beautiful.
