I’m nothing if not predictable. For example, my normal “daily uniform” is a tunic dress or sweater and leggings. During quarantine it has been a sherpa pullover and yoga pants. If I’m wearing flats, they’re almost always Birdies (full review here), and if I’m wearing heels, they’re either Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, or Sam Edelman Hazel pumps. I wear one perfume until the entire bottle is gone. And if I try a new perfume and something bad happens that day, I’ll never wear it again. Although those things are really just a mix of preferences and superstitions, they’re predictable nonetheless. Kind of like my obsession with blue eyeshadow. So you know I had to get my hands on the new Charlotte Tilbury Super Blue eyeshadow palette and eyeliner.

Of course, if you’ve been here before, you know I’m obsessed with blue eyeshadow. In fact, I’ve written about the blue eyeshadow trend, reviewed the Colourpop Blue Eyeshadow Palette, and even mentioned blue eyeliner in my holiday makeup trend report. Although I’ve always loved a pop of blue on my lids, I never thought about why. However, there’s a whole school of thought surrounding Color Theory that goes into why certain colors look good on certain people. Charlotte Tilbury took things one step further by creating curated eyeshadow sets aiming to help enhance your natural eye color. You can read more about the Magic Eye sets in my full collection preview. But today we’re going to talk about my favorite Charlotte Tilbury set – Super Blue.

First, let’s start with the details. The Super Blue Eyeshadow Quad is $53 and contains 4 eyeshadow shades. The Matte & Metallic Eyeliner Pencil is $30 and has a matte navy on one end and a metallic electric blue on the other. All of the pieces in the Magic Eye collection are available at Sephora, Nordstrom, and the Charlotte Tilbury website. Out of the four shades in the eyeshadow palette, there are three sparkle shades (gold, bronze, and blue) and one matte shade (navy). Of course the packaging looks and feels expensive and beautiful and is exactly what you would expect from Charlotte Tilbury.

My favorite part about the eyeliner is that it is 2 in 1. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I used an entire eyeliner. (I use a felt tip liner every day, so I do go through those faster.) So I love the idea that I can have two shades in one pencil. Especially a statement color and something more versatile. However, I found the formula to be a little tough to use. It was difficult to get both a sharp crisp line, and full pigmentation. Although it wasn’t impossible.

As for the Charlotte Tilbury Super Blue Eyeshadow Palette, the colors are absolutely beautiful. I am so drawn to that bright blue! I have to admit the lightest shade was a bit more gold than I was anticipating. Honestly I thought it would be more of a champagne. But it’s still pretty. I just wish this was more of a “one and done” palette. Maybe swap the bronze shade for a matte caramel brown or something.

For my first look, I used the gold shade on my lid, the bronze shade in my crease, and the metallic blue liner. Overall, the eyeshadows applied and blended like a dream. They were so creamy and great. I do wish there were more matte shades, but I know it gets tough when you can only have 4 shades in a palette.

For my second look, I used the navy in my crease and the bright blue on my lid with the navy eyeliner in my lower waterline. Oh my goodness the navy was so pigmented! It was a super intense smokey eye right off the bat. However, the bright blue was so disappointing. I thought it would be a really great opaque pigmented shade, but it’s more of a sparkly topper. It took a lot of effort to try to build it to a full opaque blue. But the sparkles are so pretty!

Although the sets are curated to suit different eye colors, there’s nothing stopping you from using the other shades. Like I always say: beauty is personal. There are always going to be different things that make you feel pretty or beautiful or good about yourself or that you think look best on you. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You are amazing.

Overall ranking (out of 5) –
Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eyeshadow Palette – Super Blue – 3.5 – It’s not a one and done palette. You’ll probably need to bring in other eyeshadows to create a full look. Plus, the bright blue shade is more of a topper than an opaque show stopper.
Charlotte Tilbury Matte & Metallic Eyeliner – Super Blue – 3 – I like that it’s a two in one. However, the pigment is super soft yet tough to use and hard to get full color payoff.
XOXO,
Tiffany

Omg I was so excited when I saw this gorgeous smokey eye! A little sad that the blue is not an intense opaque like we were all hoping for. Still, this looks like a pretty palette for holiday season. Great review! I appreciate your honesty.

Totally agree. It’s all still beautiful and great quality… just needs a little help from other palettes! And you know I’m always honest with you! ❤️
