If I could only wear one makeup product for the rest of my life, it would be mascara. In fact, I rarely leave the house without mascara on. Not because I’m full of myself, or insecure. But mostly just because I feel like it just sets the intention for the day. A splash of mascara just brightens up your face and brightens up the day too. Although I can be a bit of a makeup snob, mascara is one of the few products that can be just as good at the drugstore. In fact, I’ve tried awesome drug store mascaras, and bad prestige mascaras too. Although I’m always up for trying something new, I’m super hard on my mascara critiques, as the bar is pretty high. So I was intrigued when Anastasia Beverly Hills announced the launch of their new Lash Brag Mascara.

In general, I’m a huge ABH fan. I adore their eyeshadow formulas (check out my reviews on the Norvina, Riviera, and Amrezy palettes!), and I’ve been using their brow products for years. However, when I learned about the new mascara launch, I couldn’t help but be a bit disappointed that they didn’t bring back their clear waterproof mascara top coat. In my opinion, it’s the holiest of all holy grail products, and I wish people understood how amazing clear waterproof topcoat mascaras are and that companies would bring them back and stop discontinuing them. Ok. Rant over. (But seriously ABH and other makeup brands – please!)

The Lash Brag mascara comes in two sizes – full size ($25), and mini/travel size ($13). I have the mini size. It is available at Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, and the ABH website. It’s said to be a “jet-black, ultra-volumizing mascara that creates fullness you can’t stop bragging about.”

Here’s a picture of the brush without any product on it, because I accidentally dropped it. So then I had to wash it. I really love the shape of this brush. It reminds me of the Too Faced Damn Girl Mascara wand, as well as the Marc Jacobs Mascara wand. As for the formula, it’s both creamy and buildable. Honestly, when brands say it’s “buildable”, I absolutely do not believe them. In fact, it usually just makes your lashes more clumpy or spidery. But that’s not the case with the Lash Brag mascara. As a matter of fact, it’s more like a great bra. The formula really lifts and separates. I was totally shocked.

All in all, this might be my new favorite mascara. I’ve been using the L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara and Primer lately, and I felt like the Lash Brag gave me the same look without the primer step. My lashes were soft and fluffy, but still long and luxurious. However, I did notice some melting under my eyes by the end of the day. But most mascaras and eyeliners melt on me, so that’s not a big shock.

Overall ranking (out of 5)
Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Mascara – 4.5
– It did melt a little bit under my eyes. (Which ironically could have been prevented with that clear waterproof top coat! Someone bring that back!)
