**Updated June 1, 2020 from a preview post to a full review.** As a matter of fact, I know it’s super easy to get excited about the more fun sides of beauty and wellness like lipstick and eyeshadow. On the contrary, when was the last time you got excited about a shampoo? Well, let me tell you… The excitement around the latest Drunk Elephant announcement has been bananas. (I know elephants probably don’t eat bananas, but “the excitement has been peanuts” doesn’t have the same vibe.) To be sure, the new Drunk Elephant Hair Care line has the beauty world abuzz.

Created in partnership with celebrity hair stylist Chris McMillan, the new Drunk Elephant Hair Care line is the brands first venture outside of skincare. It includes four products – a shampoo, a conditioner, a scalp scrub, and a tangle spray. The products range from $25-$36 and are available at Sephora, Space NK, Cult Beauty, Mecca, and Drunk Elephant’s website.

First, let’s talk about the basics. In general all Drunk Elephant products are “suspicious six” free, and the new hair care products are no exception. Inspired by the OG skincare products, the new hair care line is just as bold and fun as you’d expect. Additionally even the packaging is on brand! For example, the Wild Marula Tangle Spray is inspired by the Marula Oil and the T.L.C. Happi Scalp is inspired by the T.L.C. Framboos serum.

Obviously the two products I was most excited to try are the Scalp Scrub ($36) and the Tangle Spray ($25). Since so many of us are dry shampoo addicts, a great scalp scrub is always a good idea. In fact, according to Sephora’s website, the T.L.C. Happi Scalp Scrub is supercharged AHA/BHA acid blend dissolves dead skin cells and styling product buildup while biodegradable, gentle exfoliating beads sweep them away. Furthermore, a tangle spray can help prevent breakage and make brushing your hair a nicer experience. With that in mind, Sephora’s website says the tangle spray is a weightless leave-in mist that detangles, smooths, and provides heat protection while restoring natural movement, manageability, and shine. Additionally, who doesn’t love an awesome multi use product?

My only complaint about the Drunk Elephant T.LC. Happi Scalp Scrub is that you apply it to dry hair, scrub it in, and let it sit for 10 minutes before you get your hair wet. Which means I usually forget to use it. I wish you could use it on dry or wet hair or didn’t have to wait so long to wash it out. But that’s less of a mark on the product itself and more of an issue with my own time management. Also, I don’t like the way it smells once it’s all scrubbed in.

As for the tangle spray, it really works! In order to fully show you, I included a full test in my recent YouTube video! In fact, I washed my hair using all of these products, showed you how (and how well) the Wild Marula Tangle Spray works, and shared all of my thoughts on both the Drunk Elephant Hair Care line, as well as the new Drunk Elephant Body Care line too! Check it out.

Although I’m also excited about the shampoo ($25) and conditioner ($25), each bottle is only 8 oz. Since I have super long hair, I go through a lot of shampoo. How long will one 8oz bottle last? We will find out! Especially since it’s quite runny. Be careful when you open the container. Because of its thin consistency, it comes out really fast. Similarly, the shampoo is a sulfate-free, color-safe nourishing shampoo that removes product buildup without damaging the hair shaft for smooth, shiny hair. Likewise, the conditioner is a concentrated, nourishing blend of non-fragrant plant oils and butters soften, smooth, and detangle all hair types.

In my opinion, if you’re going to just pick up a couple of products the tangle spray and the scalp scrub are where it’s at. Although the shampoo and conditioner are great, they’re a lot more expensive than your traditional Walmart/Target shampoo and conditioner brands. However, if you’re looking to clean up your routine, have a lot of allergies to traditional products, or just want to cut out some of the bad stuff, Drunk Elephant is always a great place to start.

Overall Rankings (out of 5) –
Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Happi Scalp Scrub – 4.5 –
You get a lot of product in this container. But you have to remember to use it 10 minutes before you get in the shower and I don’t like the smell after it’s all scrubbed in.
Drunk Elephant Wild Marula Tangle Spray – 5 – Smells nice and works really well.
Drunk Elephant Cocomino Glossing Shampoo – 3.5 – It’s nice, but I felt like I needed to double cleanse to really feel clean. It’s also really thin and a small amount for the high cost.
Drunk Elephant Cocomino Marula Cream Conditioner – 3.5 – Average. I like that’s free of all the bad stuff. But it’s expensive for the size.

XOXO,
Tiffany
