As a trend forecaster, there are few things I love more than an amazing product launch. Some launches are known for their innovative products. Others for their incredible packaging. But every once in a while, there is a launch that comes with both. And Pat McGrath Labs is notorious for checking all of the boxes. With the new Pat McGrath foundation system (Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection), Mother didn’t come to play. Mother came to SLAY!

If you’ve visited my blog before, you already know I am a HUGE Pat McGrath fan. I’m obsessed with the PMG Lust: Gloss lipgloss (full review here). And the Matte Trance lipstick (full review here). And of course the iconic Lust 004 glitter lips (full review here). Mother can’t lose! Always executed with the utmost thought and quality, Pat McGrath is on the leading edge of beauty innovation. Of course, the new foundation does not disappoint. From the moment you open the box, it’s an experience. The outer packaging is stunning, and the inner packaging is practically art. You could even leave this foundation bottle out on your vanity and keep it on display.

Since I had to have the new Pat McGrath foundation ASAP, I knew I had to order it online. At first, I was super concerned about ordering foundation online. How was I supposed to get a perfect match if I couldn’t swatch different shades? Or look at it in person? Honestly, I’m super terrible at knowing if I have “peach undertones” or “neutral” or “sand” or whatever other descriptors companies use to help you determine your shade. However, that’s where the Shade Finder widget at Sephora came in handy!
Thanks to the Shade Finder widget, I entered my go-to foundation (MAC Cosmetics ProLongwear – NC20) and it told me that Pat McGrath Foundation Light Medium 8 would be a perfect match. So I crossed my fingers and waited for the package to arrive. Lo and behold, LM8 WAS a perfect match! Thanks Sephora Shade Finder! Whew!

After giving myself a moment to appreciate the incredible packaging, the first thing I noticed was how liquid-y the foundation was. It is a very thin formula that really lays beautifully on your skin. Next, I noticed the smell. It is so clean and fresh. Not perfumed or heavy. In fact, it’s so faint, I didn’t realize it was the foundation at first. I have to admit, this foundation gave me a “my skin but better” kind of vibe for sure. Very impressive!
As for the primer, it also has a very faint, clean, and lovely smell. It has a thicker, creamy consistency and really did make my pores look smaller and my skin look nice and smooth.
The setting powder is a fantastic product to complete this Sublime Perfection trifecta. At first, I was concerned that it came in multiple shades, as I have only ever used translucent setting powders. However, the shade Light Medium 2 looks incredible on my skin and blended in quite nicely.
Overall, I am very impressed with the Pat McGrath Foundation and the entire Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection system. The products looked and felt amazing on my skin, and they lasted all day. There was even still foundation on my makeup wipe at the end of the day. Although, I did notice a bit of separation around the base of my nose at the end of the day. However, the damage was easily fixed by patting the area with my fingertip.
Overall Ranking (out of 5) –
Pat McGrath Labs Sublime Perfection Foundation – 4.5 – This foundation is lovely. It’s not as full coverage as I’m used to, but it’s super pretty on the skin. The bottle is absolutely gorgeous and feels heavy, substantial, and luxurious. But it’s expensive.
Pat McGrath Labs Sublime Perfection Setting Powder – 4 – It blends well, wears well, and looks super pretty. I like that it comes in multiple colors. The packaging is pretty. But it’s expensive.
Pat McGrath Labs Sublime Perfection Hydrating Primer – 3 – The product itself is lovely. It really did make my pores look smaller. However, it’s very expensive for a primer. And the packaging feels super cheap. For the high cost and PMG name, I expected more.

I would love to try this but unfortunately the prices are killing me!
Yeah, I feel you. They are crazy expensive for sure!
I can’t afford to read this post! 😂😂😂 Seriously though; once you get over the sticker shock of Pat McGrath Labs products, you understand that you’re truly paying for premium quality makeup and dupes simply do not exist. Great post!
