April showers may bring May flowers, but they can also bring a whole storm of beauty problems. From crazy hair to streaky spray tans, a little bit of rain can wreak havoc on our best beauty looks. However, it doesn’t have to be so terrible. There are a ton of different waterproof makeup options out there and I have a few tried and true favorites. After all, every cloud has a silver lining!
First of all, let me start with the most important part of your makeup routine. Of course I mean sunscreen! Even though the skies may be cloudy and gray doesn’t mean you can’t turn red. Luckily, my favorite sunscreen (Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen SPF 50 – $19) is not only amazing, but it’s also waterproof!
Next up, foundation. In fact, I have been using MAC Cosmetics Prolongwear Foundation ($36) for years. Not only is it waterproof, but it is also transfer resistant, sweat proof, and has a 24 hour longwear formula that is amazing. I have tried so many other brands throughout the years and just have not found anything as good. However, don’t be confused by my picture vs the picture in the link. It’s just new packaging. =)
Besides mascara, eyeliner is one of the most important waterproof makeup products. Luckily, there are several amazing options. One of my favorites is MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack ($18). Although this is a gel liner that you apply with a brush, it’s not nearly as scary as it sounds. Plus it’s WAY easier to tightline with this product than standard liners. However, if you’re more of a liquid/felt tip pen kind of gal, I’m also a big fan of the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner ($22). Even better, if you have darker hair (like mine), you can even use the shade “Dark Brown” as a brow pen!
Finally, we have my all-time-favorite-go-to-hero waterproof makeup product. If you think I’m hyping this up and going to let you down, you are so wrong. I’m about to change your life. Whether you have issues with rain, tears, or the all time biggest makeup annoyance – melting eye makeup, you need a waterproof mascara topcoat in your life. Raccoon eyes can be caused by so many things. From your eye cream to your choice of mascara/liner, to that stressful meeting that just raised your blood pressure, no one wants to look like a crazy person by 10a. Waterproof mascara topcoat can solve all of these problems.
The best part is that the product is clear. It can be used over any mascara, or even on its own. I never put regular mascara on my bottom lashes. Just the waterproof topcoat. However, I will give you a fair warning. This is the third brand I have used because they KEEP GETTING DISCONTINUED! And let me tell you, I cry every time. First, I found a waterproof topcoat by Anastasia Beverly Hills. Of course it was absolutely wonderful because… hello… ABH! Once they discontinued it, I discovered ULTA’s house brand had one! Alas, that was discontinued as well. Which leads me to NYX cosmetics Proof It Waterproof Mascara Topcoat ($7). It is also available at Target and Amazon both for $11.59 (for some reason), and CVS (in store only) for $7. However, it was out of stock or not available at my local stores.
Ultimately, there aren’t many occasions you’ll need to wear a full face of waterproof makeup. However, it’s great to know there are some fantastic products out there when you need them! Do you have any tried and true waterproof makeup favorites? Let me know in the comments below!
