Summer is in full swing and it’s time for me to step up onto my soap box for a minute. When you think about summer, what are your biggest worries? What side dish to bring to the picnic? What to do with your kids and their newfound free time? Maybe even finding the perfect Sangria recipe. For the past 5 years, my biggest summer worry has been skin cancer. After having several spots cut off, I have become the biggest advocate of wearing sunscreen everyday.
With being part hispanic, I thought I was safe from the sun’s rays. I rarely got a sunburn and if I wore sunscreen, I thought SPF 4 would suffice. SPF 15 at the most. Not to mention the fact that I practically lived in a tanning bed. Upon the start of laser hair removal, I had to stop tanning so the laser would work. Little did I know this decision would change my life.
Previously, I thought skin cancer was only for pale people. Surely someone like my fair skinned little brother would have a higher susceptibility, right? However, one day I noticed I had gotten a couple of new spots on my torso within a 6 month period and decided to see a dermatologist. Since that day, I have had 4 spots removed. Furthermore, I never miss an annual skin check.
Because of my history, wearing sunscreen everyday is a necessity. Whether it is summer or winter, sunscreen is always the second step in my beauty routine. Since it is such an important step, I have tried so many different formulas, brands, and kinds of sunscreen.
Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen SPF 50 – $19
When I first heard about Supergoop, I didn’t really trust a brand with such a silly name. How could it possibly work? However, this has become my all time favorite sunscreen. It is fantastic under makeup and never clogs my pores. I can’t express how much I love wearing this sunscreen everyday.
Coola Full Spectrum 360 Sun Silk Drops SPF 30 – $46
Now this one is a bit more expensive, and not quite as user friendly. With that being said, I really love the way it smells and the way it works. Not only does it contain SPF 30, but it also protects from environmental toxins and digital overexposure. Plus their description of “got you covered from beach to board meeting” is really cute. Sometimes I feel like wearing SPF 50 sunscreen everyday can be a bit much. I really love wearing this Coola Sunscreen during the winter or when I know I’m going to see more office light than sunlight.
Neutrogena Dry Touch Sunscreen
Last but not least, Neutrogena Dry Touch Sunscreen is my favorite full body sunscreen. With SPF ratings from 30-100+, you are sure to find the level of coverage you are looking for. This sunscreen is light, comfortable, and very user friendly. Plus, at only 3 oz, they’re TSA travel friendly!
Ok, I’m off my soapbox. Now go enjoy your summer. But don’t forget your sunscreen!
XOXO,
Tiffany
