Have you ever had one of “those days”? When nothing goes your way and you just can’t do anything right? When I have one of “those days” I generally end up “Disney Princess Crying”. What the heck is Disney Princess Crying? It’s when you throw yourself onto the nearest surface and just start sobbing. Like every Disney Princess in every movie ever. However, not every bad day needs to end in tears. Like I mentioned in my 32 things about me post, one of the most important quotes I’ve heard is “Look out for #1, because no one else will.” As women, we usually worry about everyone else before ourselves. Unfortunately, sometimes this ends with us feeling neglected and worthless. And since you should never feel helpless, worthless, or any other kind of “less”, here are some ways to show yourself you are worthy on “one of those days”.
Take a bubble bath
This is one of my favorites and definitely one of the easiest. Unless you don’t have a bathtub. Then this one is pretty tough. Whether you listen to music, read a book, watch something on your phone or iPad, or just meditate, a bath is a great way to remember how special and worthy you are. My favorite baths include candles and Lush bath bombs. However, since I’m a bit frugal, I always break the bath bombs in half. Two baths are better than one!
Put on a mud mask
What better way to show yourself you are worthy than to do something to improve your skin? Are you tired and need a little refresh? Or are you breaking out and needing a deep clean? Since there are so many different kinds of face masks, you are sure to find one that suits your needs.
Read a book
Sometimes on a bad day you just need to get out of your head. I find that “chick-lit” books are best suited for this task. Something “light and airy” that I don’t have to think about and will make me smile. The Devil Wears Prada is one of my favorites. As always, the book is so much better than the movie.
Buy yourself a treat
Ok, now this one can get a bit expensive. Whoever said “shopping is less expensive than therapy” didn’t know where to shop! However, if you are the kind of person who can participate in moderation (I know I can’t!), then you can understand how to show yourself you are worthy with a little something special. Some special treats could include a lotion with a lovely smell, a new notebook, a cupcake, or even a latte. Anything that will make you smile. Unfortunately, when I try this, I generally end up with shoes or a handbag. C’est la vie.
Go somewhere special
This one sounds misleading. Of course, I think everyone would feel better if they could just jet off to Mexico or Paris whenever they had “one of those days”. However, with most of us, that’s not the case. But we can go somewhere that is special to us. This could be a museum, a restaurant, an animal shelter, a park, or even to visit a loved one. Go alone, or with a friend. Whatever brings you joy.
Write in a journal
There are a lot of variations when thinking about journaling. In the past, I kept a “good things jar”. Every time something good happened, I wrote it down and put it in the jar. Currently, I love my One Line A Day journal. Every night after I take off my makeup, I take a minute to reflect on the day and write down a few thoughts. They don’t have to be happy or profound. However, I do find that my thoughts are more positive (or at least more understanding) at the end of the day.
