One of my favorite family memories is watching football with my dad. Each Sunday my dad invites everyone over to watch the game. It doesn’t even matter who is playing – he mostly just bribes us with food. Like most families, food always brings us together. Throughout my allergy journey, my family has been so supportive. With my dad being diabetic, and me being allergic to so many things, I wanted to come up with some incredible snacks that are perfect for game day. Of course, my dad’s go-to snacks are anything with cheese or hummus. But his goals are low carb and high protein, and I can’t have dairy or legumes. As a result, I came up with this list of paleo football snacks that are both father and daughter approved!

Although I am calling this list “paleo football snacks”, they are also low carb and Whole30! Just not vegetarian. This daughter and her dad love some bacon.

First up, appetizers!

Bacon Wrapped Pineapple Shrimp

Paleo Football Snacks 02

Don’t worry – this combination isn’t like pineapple on pizza. Although, I honestly think that’s pretty great.

Bacon Wrapped Pineapple Shrimp Recipe
– Place a piece of pineapple in the curve of a piece of raw shrimp.
– Wrap the pineapple and shrimp in a piece of bacon.
– Secure with a toothpick or skewer.
– Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes.
– Flip and bake for another 10 minutes.

Thai Sweet Chili Shrimp

Paleo Football Snacks 04

Lately, one of my favorite things is Thai Sweet Chili sauce. Therefore, I will put it on just about anything. Plus, this is possibly the easiest recipe ever. Are you ready for this?

Thai Sweet Chili Shrimp Recipe
– Put shrimp on skewers.
– Marinate in Thai Sweet Chili sauce for at least a couple of minutes.
– Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes.
– Serve with extra Thai Sweet Chili sauce.

Bacon Wrapped Dates

Paleo Football Snacks 03

These little guys are so good they could be an appetizer or a dessert. Although you’re probably thinking “Bacon for dessert? Girl you’re crazy!” However I had this chocolate cake one time with bacon on top of it that was amazing. But, I digress. Bacon wrapped dates are the perfect paleo football snacks. They are quick, easy, delicious, and unexpected.

Bacon Wrapped Dates Recipe
– Cut bacon in half.
– Remove pits from dates (just cut them open).
– Wrap bacon around dates and secure with a toothpick or skewer.
– Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes.
– Flip and bake another 10 minutes.

Next up, mini-dishes!

So, I’ve been calling these “deconstructed sandwiches”. Despite the fact that it’s not technically right, I’m still going to call them that. I just really love the term for some reason. Although these could be considered appetizers, I feel like they’re a bit more substantial, but not quite main dish material. You know, like that guy you dated in college ;).

Paleo Football Snacks 05

Turkey and Apple Deconstructed Sandwich Recipe
I guess there’s not really a recipe for this. You just put a slice of apple, some dijon mustard, and some turkey on a skewer or toothpick. Although, the thing that really puts this recipe over the top is this horseradish dijon mustard I found at my local grocery store.

Paleo Football Snacks 06

Ham and Pickle Deconstructed Sandwich Recipe
Again, not really much of a recipe. Stack the pickle, mustard, and ham, and secure with a toothpick or skewer. Of course, my dad likes to be different (the apple doesn’t fall far!) and he loves using jalepeno pickles.

That’s the beauty of these little deconstructed sandwiches – everyone can have whatever they want. You could even have a little build your own (un)sandwich bar! Although, I will warn you. These little guys can be a bit messy. But hey, so are the best football games, am I right?

XOXO,
Tiffany

  1. What great ideas!! Guess we better get our grocery list ready so we will be ready for Super Bowl LII on Sunday!!

  2. i have a question about the bacon and fig recipe. Do I purchase the figs that are dried and packaged (like the dates) or purchase fresh figs. Sorry, I have never had figs before. Thank you.

    1. Oh my goodness, Belle! You caught a huge mistake! They actually ARE dates, not figs! I’m updating the post now. I am so sorry for the confusion! I’ve never figured the fig thing out either, btw! Thank you SO much!
