Holiday parties are one of my favorite events of the year. I love getting dressed up, wearing something awesome, and doing full on makeup. Not that I don’t do full on makeup every day. But I love being able to take my time and be a little #extra. This year, it’s all about the sparkle. Surprisingly, each day I discover more and more ways cosmetic companies are incorporating sparkle into their products. From Pat McGrath’s Lust 004 to GlamGlow’s Glitter Mask, I fully approve of this trend. Here are some of my favorite easy ways to incorporate glitter into your holiday party makeup…
I don’t carry the unicorn trend well. I know it’s all the rage right now, but I just can’t pull it off. Maybe it’s the iridescence? Or the pastel palette? Or maybe I’m just not a unicorn kind of girl. I’m not sure. However, my tastes lean more toward “glammy bombshell”. Think old Hollywood red lip, or some other statement move like a bold wing.
Although I feel like a lot of rules can be broken with holiday party makeup, I do feel like one still applies. Don’t overdo it. Now, I know you’re thinking “But wait, you just said we can be #extra and glitter all the things!” Yes. You can be #extra. But, maybe not glitter ALL the things. I like to stick with just one statement thing at at time (shoes don’t count). If I do a bold lip, I try not to pair it with a severe smokey eye. If I do a crazy cut crease look in a vibrant color, I don’t do a matchy matchy lip. Just like in life, makeup is all about balance.
Obviously, my love for glitter knows no bounds. That made it difficult to decide which holiday party makeup looks are my favorite and deserve to be shared. So, I’ll start with the most difficult.
First up – Glitter eyeliner. My favorite way to use glitter eyeliner is to create your regular black liner look (wing or not, up to you.), and then trace just above the line you just made with your glitter liner. If you’re not comfortable doing that, you could always just use the glitter liner on its own. You could even line your upper lashes with your regular liner and then just line your lower lashes with the glitter liner for a more avant-garde look. I really love this Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Pyro. I’ve also used Midnight Cowboy (gold) and it is great too. It comes in 13 different colors, so you’re sure to find one that suits your vibe.
Second, we have glitter eyeshadow. I went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago and did the most awesome look with this Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow. I put the color Kitten Karma (a lovely blend of champagne, silver, and copper) all over my lid and then smoked out the crease a little bit with a couple different shades of chocolate brown. Topped it off with a nude lip and danced the night away!
Finally, I leave you with my favorite. This is by far the easiest way to incorporate glitter into your holiday party makeup look. Glitter lipstick! I am obsessed with Kat Von D’s Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick in Dazzle. It’s the most amazing shade of crimson with flecks of pink and gold glitter. In fact, this is the most incredible glitter lipstick I have ever used. And that’s saying something. Because I’ve tried a lot. It wears well and the glitter really lasts. However, Dazzle is the only shade I like. In true Kat Von D fashion, this lipstick comes in 9 of the craziest shades I have ever seen. When would I wear aquamarine or royal purple glitter lipstick? Even the neon pink is a little too “Barbie” for me. And I didn’t know that was possible!
Not ready for a bold glitter lip? This Glitter Gloss from Victoria’s Secret is a really great alternative. Super sparkly and nothing subtle about it! Wear it on its own, or layer it over your favorite lip color to create a custom shade. The choice is yours!
All in all, I think you should have fun with your holiday party makeup. Try something different, or play up your usual look. It’s like Halloween’s classy cousin. You can be as glam as you want and you’re just being “festive”. 😉 Shine on!
XOXO,
Tiffany
