I love red lipstick. I think it is classic and elegant. Plus I also wear a lot of black, so a little pop of red is an amazing accessory. I even wear red lipstick when I go to the doctor’s office. It just makes me feel better and puts me in a good mood. Ready to take on the world.

I still remember the first time my parents ever let me wear red lipstick. I was Dorothy for Halloween, complete with braids, a stuffed Toto, red sparkle shoes, and red lipstick. From that moment, I was hooked and never looked back.

Since my skin is more “cool toned”, I only wear blue reds. Not only do orange reds look funny against my skin, but they also make my teeth look yellow. A good blue red can make your teeth look whiter. Bonus!

Today I want to share my 3 favorite red lipsticks with you:

MAC Cosmetics Satin Lipstick in MAC Red was my first “grown up” red lipstick. It will always hold a special place in my heart. But, as I get older, the satin formula doesn’t stay as well and sometimes bleeds. Sad day.

MAC Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Russian Red is my favorite lipstick of all time. It’s my “signature red”. It is also my favorite MAC red in both color and formula. It is smooth and easy and the perfect shade of red for me. The only reason I don’t wear it every day is because I’m too much of a liability to not smear red lipstick all over my face by accident during a normal work day.

The last (but not least!) of my favorite red lipsticks is Sephora Always Red. Sephora Always Red is my “ok to wear to work” red. It is transfer resistant and wears well. But, it dries quickly and can be quite difficult to fix without starting over if you mess up too badly.

Of course if you’re not a “cool toned” person, there are so many other lovely shades of red out there. I know you’ll be able to find one that is perfect for you. MAC even has 23 different shades of red!

In fact, if you want even more information on amazing lipsticks, you should check out my post about drugstore vs. prestige formulas.

I actually keep a red lipstick mini both my handbag and my travel bag. You never know when you’re going to be in a red lipstick emergency.

I guess that goes to show that I’m still that little girl in red lipstick and high heels. Only, now they’re Louboutins. 😉

  1. Not a red lipstick person; nor nail polish for that matter. Just doesnt look right on me….maybe because I have thin lips…..looks good on you though. I tend to wear pink or beige.
