It finally happened. I was standing in my local grocery store and it hit me. I HAD to have some chocolate. This craving didn’t even bother me at all during my Whole30 journey. (Read more about my Whole30 journey here.) But here it was. Several weeks (if not MONTHS) later… back with a vengeance. Of course I began to scour every inch of the entire candy section for chocolate with no milk or soy. Ha. Silly me. Like I was going to find anything there. **Insert eye roll emoji here**. In fact even the pure dark chocolate I found contained soy.  Seriously people?!

Suddenly I remembered why I shop at that particular grocery store. It has the absolute best health food section. So, across the store I went, trying not to let fear or disappointment creep in. I looked at every package of chocolate in the Health Mart section. They all contained one or more of my allergens – peanuts, milk, or soy. How was I going to survive?

Then, on the bottom shelf, there it was… The Holy Grail of chocolate. Hu Chocolate. 9 flavors of paleo/vegan chocolate!

Hu Chocolate doesn’t contain any of the following:

  • Dairy
  • GMOs
  • Emulsifiers
  • Soy lecithin
  • Gluten
  • Refined sugar
  • Cane sugar
  • Sugar alcohols

What’s left, you may ask? The best chocolate I’ve ever had in my entire life. Seriously. I bought two different kinds because they were a bit expensive and I didn’t know how I would feel about chocolate in my post Whole30 life. Then I went back two days later and bought 6 more bars. Not only that, but I even bought out my favorite Hu Chocolate variety – Cashew Butter + Pure Vanilla Bean.

The next Friday, when I went for my weekly grocery run, I went back for more. My two favorite flavors were gone. Slowly, week by week, I watched all of the other flavors disappear as well. They were completely sold out for the next several weeks. They were even sold out online! Finally, my second favorite (Hazelnut Butter) was back in stock online. I bought a whole box of 12 bars. All for myself. As soon as Cashew Butter + Pure Vanilla Bean is back in stock, I’ll be buying a box of that as well. This is one treat I won’t share with my food panel. Sorry guys.

For 12 bars of chocolate, $59.99 and free shipping may seem a bit expensive (about $5 a bar), but for a bit of indulgence in this crazy world, AND no allergens or bad stuff, I think it’s totally worth it. It takes me a few days to finish a bar, because I really take the time to savor it, and the pure chocolate really is just that good.

Overall, I’m a big fan of Hu Chocolate. And an even bigger fan of not depriving yourself of everything you love. Although sometimes having food allergies can be restrictive, there are more and more great substitutes every day. In fact, I even found an incredible way to make an allergy friendly grilled cheese that tastes just like the real deal. Let me know in the comments below if I should share the recipe!

**THIS IS NOT AN AD** I just really love their chocolate.

XOXO,
Tiffany
